What would it mean to attempt what Michelangelo once did and depict an image of the face of the divine? This was the challenge that inspired me to make this painting. Gender-neutral looking out from the metaphysical duality of light and dark, all the symbols here work to support the mechanism of encounter with an image that was revealed to me by my imagination as I reached out to the divine, whatever that means.
